Maybelline FaceStudio Master Fairy Highlight Illuminating Powder in The Exclusive Purple (Ulta exclusive) and The Original Rainbow are such fun highlighters! I had to grab the purple one (my favorite color!), and decided to get the rainbow too since they were “Buy One, Get One 50% Off”. Read on for more photos and my review!
These highlighters are housed in sturdy plastic compacts. I was pleasantly surprised that compacts included both a mirror and a sponge! The sponge is fun to use if you want a “striped” effect–just swipe it across the pan, then apply. For a subtler look, I swirl all the colors together with a brush. In both my highlighters, which I got at Ulta, the shades are evenly distributed–though I’ve seen pictures of some with uneven stripes.
The Exclusive Purple, which can only be purchased at Ulta, is made up of 4 shimmery shades of purple: a very light, iridescent lilac-white; a pale lavender; light-medium purple with silvery glitter; and medium purple. I love the iridescence of this color! Swirled together, the effect is of a very shimmery, very pale pink-purple–which I love. My fair, cool coloring makes this highlighter look work appropriate on me, so I’ll get a lot of use out of it.
The Original Rainbow is also made of 4 shimmery colors: medium red, medium golden yellow, medium blue, and medium purple. This is NOT a “rainbow highlighter” that looks cool in the pan, but takes on a generic highlighter look once applied. It actually applies rainbow. If you rub the sponge back-and-forth a little in the pan, the colors even mix to create orange and green shades–giving you a complete rainbow! I don’t know if I would strictly call this a “highlighter”. It’s shimmery and can be worn on the face, but the effect is more colorful than glow-y.
The Maybelline FaceStudio Master Fairy Highlight Illuminating Powders are a unique alternative to traditional golden highlighters. They can be applied heavily with the sponge for a more pigmented look, or sheered out with a brush for a subtle highlight. I would definitely recommend these for someone who wants to try a creative highlighter without spending a ton of money.
Have you picked up these Maybelline Fairy Highlighters? What are your thoughts?
